Lee y Produce

For your child to understand what they read, say what they think and write what they feel. Lee y Produce strengthens the most transferable skills there are, because they accompany your child in every subject —in Spanish and in English— and throughout life.

What is Lee y Produce?

Lee y Produce is Brighton's program for the development of reading, writing and communication. It systematically works on the three capacities with the greatest impact on school performance and adult life: understanding what is read, producing texts with purpose and expressing oneself clearly. It draws on informational, scientific and literary texts, and strengthens comprehension through reasoning, not just questionnaires. It accompanies the student from preschool through middle school, deepening at each stage, and lays the communication foundations that later transfer to the second language.

groups How it lives in the classroom

Lee y Produce is woven into the curriculum as constant practice, with a three-moment methodology: before reading, prior knowledge is activated and anticipation is built; during reading, active comprehension strategies are applied; afterward, students synthesize, reflect and produce. Students read with purpose, discuss what they read, write texts in different genres and present their ideas to their peers. In preschool the emphasis is on oral language and first contact with reading; in primary, on comprehension and structured writing; in middle school, on argument, critique and formal communication.

Why it matters for life

Everything a person does in their professional and personal life depends, to some degree, on reading, writing and communicating. Those who read well understand the world better; those who write well organize their ideas better; those who communicate clearly build better relationships and find more opportunities. Lee y Produce does not teach how to pass a Spanish exam: it teaches how to think with words —a skill that later carries over into English as well.

Connection with the educational model

It connects with the active-methodologies and language-development axis of the MEB. The graduate profile describes the graduate as someone who listens actively, argues respectfully and adapts their message to different contexts. At Brighton, Lee y Produce works alongside Intellectus, which gives substance to the thinking being communicated, and prepares the ground for those same skills to flourish in English within the bicultural ecosystem.
